Radio Rose: Uptown Girl

A great day this is. Some time ago, I got the chance to sequester my favorite girl, Radio Rose (self-proclaimed HBIC of ATWG). I asked her about all sorts of shit including her background, her work ethic, and just what I have to do to be down. The last part didn’t turn out so great, but the rest of it made for a pretty dope interview with someone who’s undoubtedly about to kick in the door of the world of fashion. Look down.

$: Give our readers some info on who you are and what you do.

RR: I’m a hustler quite simply, I’m on a mission to do as many things as possible that keep me happy and challenged, while still keeping my bnk account from going overdraft!, so currently I’m a stylist/fashion writer/H.B.I.C. of Aroundthewaygirls.net.

$: When did you discover that fashion was your calling?

RR: I was a chemistry major in College and during my junior year realized that i HATED it!! After having my life planned out for so long, i never realized what i loved was right in front of me, my granny used to make wedding dresses in Trinidad so she would always give me pointers on how to make clothes for my Barbie’s. I started designing a few Jeans and tshirts for a few rappers around 2001-2003. I quickly spent that $$ without really thinking about the future and ended up feeling more comfortable styling and everything just branched off from there.

$: What I really love about you is that your hustle ethic is so strong. It seems like you literally busted your ass during Fashion Week, there’s the whole unpleasentness with the laptop, yet you still manage to come through. Just what keeps you going?

RR: HAHAHA! I WAS busting my ass for fashion week, but my love for it makes it worth it, I’m a firm beleiver that this universe sends you challenges to see how you can pull through from them, they may be $2000 challenges, but everything falls into place if you keep your focus.

$: Who inspired your style?
RR: In 2007 it’s all about Jackee from 227

$: What kind of style does your ideal guy have? I’m going to copy it and steal it just to get next to you lol…
RR: HAHAHa you’re too cute!! hmm……Although I do make fun of Kayne here and there his style is impecable, I’m very into dudes who can carry their weight from the hood to park avenue, no shiny suits here, it’s really about men who know how to wear their size and aren’t afraid to look refined when need be.( 5XL tees and prada sneakers…..need not apply)

*Edit: At press time, $ was seen tossing a big Glad bag of Puffy-esque suits into a refuse bin.

$: Name some brands that you think are next to take off…
RR:Dimepiece is def bringing it for the ladies, they are maintainig a level of adoration and exclusivity that will give them longevity in this very dispensable industry

AIM High has some extremely intricate graphics that you’re not ready for!! their pieces ar well thought out works of art that will blow your mind

$:Now somebody like you obviously has a sick closet. Name some of your favorite things. And just how long does it take you to get ready for a night out??

RR: To get out of my house, it litereally takes me 1.5 hour from start to finish

-My Nike Air unlimited circa’94 (they stole them with my laptops…:/)

RR: Door Knockers and a fly handbag

$: Give your definition of ‘fresh’…
RR: When you can walk into a room and you make everyone say “Yoooooooo where did you get THAT???!!!”

$: Last but not least, will you marry me???
RR:I would love to boo…but i”m tied down to a very special music man here in NY….
